š Client Candy Land: Sweet Projects, Sour Terms, and the Slow Burn to Burnout...
I Burned the Candy Client House Down and Started Cooking Up My Own Deals
Thursday night.
A another copywriter cancels dinner plansā¦
Again.
Phone buzzing with "quick revision" texts from a retainer clientā¦
Tomorrow's calendar?
Double-booked!
That big project due this week?
Hello, lost weekend.
This pattern repeats with brilliant freelance copywriters everywhereā¦
Clients adore them.
Their work delivers results.
They've "made it."
But they're caught in a cruel paradox:
Excellence attracts more clients.
More clients devour free time.
Less free time crushes personal life.
The real gut-punch?
Income still hits a ceiling.
Thereās only so many hours to sell.
And when one client drops them or moves on?
They gotta fill the gap.
Againā¦
Againā¦
And again.
The larger problem at play here?
Itās not just copywriters that bang their head on the time, energy, and money ceiling.
Internet marketers, agency owners and freelancersā¦
ā¦they all share this very same experience.
Iām not sure if you can relate?
That pull between growing a client baseā¦
Building up those retainer feesā¦
But sacrificing what little personal time remains?
Mehā¦
Here's the twist.
I donāt do any of that.
I went from frying eggs on demand for whoever walked in the doorā¦
To deciding the menu, setting the hours, and getting a cut from every plate served.
I went from being chosenā¦
ā¦to being the chooser.
I went from spending my time for moneyā¦
ā¦to investing my time & energy for oceans of return.
Iām not a ātrainedā copywriterā¦
I havenāt sat down and handwritten copy from Gary Halbert or Clayton Makepeace.
Matter of fact Iām just kinda average.
I donāt do weekend work.
I do NOT do 10pm client texts.
And I do zero deadline juggling.
Instead?
Myself and a small faction of peeps?
We just craft sixth grade simple emailsā¦
ā¦and Google docs that earn us from 30-50% of all sales generated.
And we repurpose that I.P. to get paid over and over again.
Zero client management.
No revisions.
No calendar Tetris.
No deadlines.
No demands.
No client service delivery AT ALL.
Weāre more valued as business partnersā¦
Not on-call hired help.
And we get paid fat checks too.
Want to see how we made this shift?
